Tires are more than just consumable parts of vehicles that people use every day

Tires are more than just consumable parts of vehicles that people use every day. These very important parts of the car are critical in making sure that a car stays on the road. However, given the many uses of tires and its significance, not a lot of people are taking good care of their vehicles’ tires. Some even don’t pay any attention to the condition of the tyres at all.

Tire Care and Safety

When we think about road accidents, we always think about alcohol, speeding, and violation of traffic rules, but tire-related problems are also a factor in rising number of accidents across the globe. A study entitled “Tire-Related Factors in the Pre-Crash Phase” published in the United States tries to explain the connection between tire care and safety on the road. The study revealed that about nine (9) percent of the total accidents reported were “tire-related crashes”. In the study, reports revealed that tire damage, pressure, and thread depth are great factors that can cause or prevent accidents from happening.

Factors on Tires that Affect One’s Safety on the Road

The study revealed that 4.5 percent of vehicles involved in accidents were equipped with tires that have damage. While this may seem like a small percentage, the limbs and lives lost because of these accidents are quite serious. That is why periodical checks on the physical condition of the tires is very important. Tire pressure is also one of the important factors that can cause accidents. Under inflation (less air pressure than recommended) and the over inflation (more air pressure in the tires than the recommended) of tires can cause uneven thread wear, cause much stress on the tires which may lead to damage or explosion. That is why maintaining the right tire pressure is critical to prevent possible tire damage. Also, the thread of the tire is important as this helps provide better grip on the road. On the other hand, a worn out tire can cause slips and loss of one’s control, leading to accidents. Tire age can also play a huge role in staying away from accidents. Old tires can get broken easily as its age may have weakened and may end up failing easily while being used.

Extending your Tires’ Life

Choosing the right tire and properly caring for it can play a huge role in keeping your vehicle safe from accidents. Here are some of the things that a motorist should do to extend the life of your tires:

·Regular inspect your tires for physical damage

·Keep the tires properly inflated

·Get a replacement as soon as your tires get worn out

·Follow periodic tire rotation schedule by the manufacturer

Buying from Reliable Sellers

It is never advisable to go cheap on the tyres you buy – think of them as investments for your safety. The moment you buy from illegitimate sellers or you buy substandard car parts, you are starting to put your life at great risk. It is important that you only buy tires from licensed retailers so you can be sure that what you are buying are of good quality. You may also want to consult with tire experts to know what type of tire to get for your vehicle.

By following these simple reminders, you can help prevent accidents from happening. Moreover, you will be able to get optimum performance from these tires and maximize its service life. This will help you save from the costs, not just from your vehicle’s maintenance, but prevent accidents that can cause extensive damage to property, loss of limbs, and even the lives of some. As a responsible vehicle owner, you should do your share in trying to keep the roads safe and keep yourself and others from being a part of the statistics.
