Paris Loses Inheritance, That's Hot!

by Phoenix (writer), Olympia, WA, July 30, 2007

Paris Hilton’s party-girl antics have just cost her a pretty penny. Appalled by his granddaughter’s increasingly wild behavior and blatant disregard for the law, William Barron Hilton has reportedly cut her off.

With multiple drunk-driving arrests, non-stop partying, sex tapes and public strip teases credited to her name, Paris has earned her reputation as a party-girl and in the process, dragged the once respected Hilton name through the mud.

The 26-year old celebutant will no longer receive the $60 million she was expected to inherit from her billionaire grandfather. Instead, the money will go to the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, the charity named for the founder of the company business; which means that none of his other 11 grandchildren will benefit from the windfall.

Granddaddy Hilton, 79, who is the only member of the Hilton clan with a sizable claim in the Hilton chain of hotels, is expected to sell his interest for $2.4 billion and donate the sum to charity. According to Jerry Oppenheimer, author of House Of Hilton, "He doesn't want to leave unearned wealth to his family."[1]

But don’t go taking up a collection for the socialite just yet. According to Forbes Magazine, Hilton earned approximately $2 million in 2003–2004, $6.5 million in 2004–2005, and $7 million in 2005–2006, and with her name attached to endeavors from perfume to timepieces to nightclubs to hair extensions, Paris won’t be broke anytime soon. I almost find it a little disturbing that he is giving all that to charity. Not that its not nice but a little odd. I would not be surprised to see the family try and say he is not capable of making decisions. Well I definetely still think he must be off to give that much away.

Steven B.--I'm with you. While it is incredibly generous of the old man to donate such a large sum to charity...I'm convinced that anyone who would do so is way out there--like halfway to Mars!! On the other hand, he might be sharper than we give him credit for...the millions are going to the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation...which for all we know, could be code for "The Pockets of William Barron Hilton"...

My problem with this story is that only one single news outlet carried the original story -- and it was in Australia! With Paris Hilton being the flavor du jour, this is the kind of thing that should be all over every gossip and celebrity news site in the world -- yet not a peep. The closest thing that can be found about Paris today is that she is selling her Hollywood Hills home for about $4.5 million. I'm going to withhold judgment until I see it on AP/UPI/Reuters.

Phoenix - nice sleuthing with this piece. But, please, stick to the preferred "debutard" rather than "celebutant." Accuracy is king. :)

Joe & Steven B.--Am I missing something?? D.E.--I'm sincerely hoping AP/UPI/Reuters have bigger fish to fry...I on the other hand just found the story amusing and wanted to share it with all the other members of the "Die-hard Paris Hilton Haters Club." Matt--You are so right, "Debutard" does capture her true essence much better.

Joe, I agree there are horrible things going on in Darfur, (and a hundred other countries around the world for that matter,) but sometimes I want to forget about the nightmares that are a reality for so many people and just laugh at silly "news" stories for a bit. Quite frankly, I am grateful for a break from the constant bad news every once in a while... Savage: Ah-hahahaha! I can totally picture her dropping a litter...thanks for that! And, no worries, your decoder is in the mail!!
