People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in their true beauty is revealed only if there is light from within.

What Do You Like About Yourself ?

It's kind of strange, but for some reason people struggle with answering this more so than if you ask them what they don't like about themselves. Seems they can come up with quite a list of negatives, but the positives things are harder for them to acknowledge.

Sometimes, we spend so much time thinking about our faults, and our weaknesses that we overlook everything that is precious and beautiful about ourselves.

So, I thought I'd ask the question:

What do you like about yourself?

It may be things about your body, your spirit, your actions, your ideals....

The biggest struggle in life is the struggle to know, embrace, and accept ourselves, with all of our faults and imperfections.

When we have the courage to let the walls down - to know and embrace ourselves, despite our human failings, we also open the door to connecting in a more caring, empathic, intimate way with the ones we love and with all living beings.

I'll go first.....

I am most grateful that I am able to stay strong and find a positive even in a hard situation. It is interesting to me that when life has given you many challenges , it creates in you a confidence that you will be able to handle most anything that comes your way.

I personally am glad I have not always had an easy life. I have learned so much from having to "walk through the fire". I didn't always like it at the time, but it is amazing how looking back you can find purpose and meaning in it.

What I truly appreciate about myself... NOW... is that I am no longer afraid to be who I am. What I mean by that is... I am not afraid to be honest with myself acknowledging who I am fully... I don't have to step back and hesitate... I can just be... and be very proudly me, virtues and flaws.

Let us learn to love ourselves so we can be more open and compassionate to others,

What a beautiful and honest post.Yes,Barb from the imperfection too life draws many beautiful moments of life.Let me supplement by saying that imperfection as it is perceivied in conventional sense may not be true...Life in its infinite sense occupies infinite space to explore beyond the convention too and your post very categorically mention so.Those who does certainly live thier life fully.Great article...Keep it up Barb..

By riginal on February 26, 2014 at 08:44 am that imperfection is the very essence or perfume of life...just a faint whiff of goodness every now and then and you is good girl...and you deserve a lot more goodness sprayed upon your good self...for modesty lingers round you and you know your true worth. Cheers Barb, you're an inspirational poet and person. Your self reflection is framed in peaceful karma that will hold you in good stead no matter what your circumstance...some like you have it...some of us have to try a little harder or perhaps relent a little and try to accept a little less to find that same peace?

Thank you so much Riginal. Hope you are all settled now in your new place. Happy to see you, was a bit worried about you.

Sorry I have not been around much of late. But I am sure you understand why. I am grateful to have learned from this too. Also proud of how well my children handled this. Take care my friend.
