Is Bitcoin changing the online gaming world?

by Jack Danish (writer), Miami, December 23, 2013

Bitcoin is an innovative online currency which is changing the way we play games online.

The peer-to-peer virtual currency known as Bitcoin (BTC) has become a popular choice for people who want to try their luck in online games. It is not run by a company, instead, it is operated by every computer in the network. In some ways, it is similar to TOR or BitTorrent. It seems that Bitcoin and gaming are a match made in heaven. Here are some of the reasons why it has become so popular.

Dice games have been extremely popular throughout history. It is simple for anyone to pick up and start playing Bitcoin dice as well. Today, there are a number of games which involve cubes marked with numbers, including craps and Sic Bo. Unlike conventional dice games, playing with cryptocurrency does not actually involve a die. Instead, the winning number is found through mathematical calculations. Not only do these sums ensure the result is random, but they also help the player to confirm that they are not being cheated.

To play, you select the odds and betting amount, and then click a button to determine whether or not you won. There are an endless number of possibilities in this game, which is why it has become so popular.

Every Bitcoin transaction is recorded in a ledger known as the 'blockchain'. Players can find a list of all the BTC that has been transferred between users. It means that you will be able to make sure your withdrawals or deposits have gone through without having to call your bank or ask for assistance. People who play with digital coins rather than real money have a much easier time.

A number of modified servers exist for popular games such as Minecraft, which allow players to use BTC for contests and competitions.

Bitcoin is not technically considered a real currency (legal tender) in many countries, so it is comparable to video game credits in some ways. This means that you can bet freely with your coins without any risk.

It is obvious that the future of online gambling lies in Bitcoin, or another cryptocurrency. The current payment system with complicated processes like PayPal simply is not compatible for casual users who just want to have some quick fun.
