Looking to start 2014 with a bang? Or do you need a vacation after the busy holiday season, but think you can’t afford it? Whatever your reasons for wanting to travel in 2014, the good news is that there are so many ways that you can take advantage of cheap holiday deals right now, and here are a few ideas to get you started.
Shop Online at the Right Time
This year, half a billion Americans stated that they would be doing their Christmas shopping online, instead of at traditional stores. But as recently reported in Fox News, not only is ‘Cyber Monday’ one of the best times of the year to shop online for gifts, late November/early December is also a great time to find amazing discounts on flights, car rental, vacation accommodation and package vacations online.
What’s more, travel operators often put on a ‘January Sale’ on holidays in the New Year, offering cheap holiday deals if you book quickly, so you can stock up on days of sunshine, as well as those sofa chairs and table lamps.
One of the easiest ways to save money on a vacation is to be flexible with the dates that you can travel. While this may be difficult due to work and family commitments, it doesn’t mean that it’s impossible, so shop around and experiment with different destinations; travelling somewhere in the country’s ‘off season’ can save you lots of money. For example, the Caribbean is at its most affordable from April to December.
What Are You Saving Money On?
Are you saving money on flights, or accommodation? Will you be getting all your meals at your resort, or have you booked a self-catering break? Make sure you know all this before you book, as seemingly hidden extra costs can make a big difference to that cheap holiday. As with all big purchases, check the fine print and see what you are paying for, and how you can get the best value from this.
If it doesn’t suit you, your budget or your needs, then don’t feel any pressure to book a holiday; these days there’s usually a cheaper deal elsewhere. So take a leaf out of the bargain-hunters book and get your New Year off to a flying start with a vacation deal.
