What inspired you to write your first book?
I was inspired to write my book after working in the operatic field in New York. I found that almost every singer, actor and voice teacher I worked with were always dealing with difficult vocal issues and did not want to use drugs or chemicals that continued to dry up and damage their throat and voice. I had always been a student of herbal medicine and felt it was time to present the first ever alternative to these drugs and chemicals with Superior Vocal Health- a researched and comprehensive guide to herbs for the voice and throat.
What books have influenced your life the most?
I can’t say I really have a list of specific books that have influenced my life. Most books that I have been influenced by are those that inspire me and teach me about my own life and how to better the human condition.
What are your current projects?
I am currently working on Superior Vocal Health 2- an even more concise guide of herbs for the voice and throat with additional chapters on acid reflux, hydration, recipes for the voice and more.
If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?
Not really, I am pretty happy with the final product.
What has been the toughest criticism given to you as an author?
The toughest criticism I have faced is that I write to much with to many words and need to tighten up my writing.
What has been the best compliment?
The best compliment is when I get a phone call or email from someone who bought my book and they tell me how much it helped them and how they have learned so much from my work.
Do you have any advice to give to aspiring writers?
Yes, drop all judgement of your writing, ALWAYS let someone you trust who knows about writing, see your work as you are producing it, get a serious and honest editor, and enjoy what you are writing about.
What is your favorite quality about yourself?
I believe this may be my ability to want the best product possible without taking criticism and guidance personally. As well as being able to look at my work objectively as if it was given to me by someone I did not know and was asked to review it.
What is your least favorite quality about yourself?
The least favorite quality is that I get to hard on myself and begin to analyze to much and get stuck. This will be a lifelong issue to continue working on.
Is there anything else you would like to share?
My dream is that every voice professional on this fine planet have a copy of my book in their bag, that they know they have a trusted source and a choice other than chemicals and drugs that helps them to heal and take care of their voice naturally.
