Ocho Rios Grill
Lawndale - I like to visit and try new restaurants around town to try various dishes on their menu. I'm not a food critic by any measure. The enclosed is a blog of my recent visit to Ocho Rios Grill. This is a new restaurant in the Southbay that opened for business in May 2013. Ocho Rios Grill is Jamaican-American Cuisine in the city of Lawndale, California. The address is 14400 Hawthorne Blvd, on the Southeast corner of Hawthorne Blvd., and Rosecrans Avenue. Located inside the strip mall that is anchored by Millennium Shoes and Big Savers Foods.
This restaurant is worth a visit. It was first brought to my attention by several co-workers who dined in several weeks ago and gave the restaurant high marks for the service, great quality and quantity of food.
I finally made time in my busy schedule to visit on Sunday, August 4th, to see and taste for myself, what the buzz is all about. I was greeted and welcomed immediately by the owner Maudiest Hett to the restaurant.Davon and Michal prepared my order. It was hard to decide what to order from all of the mouthwatering options available on the menu.
I decided on the Curry Chicken Dinner. The healthy portions came with a choice of three sides (rice & peas, white steamed rice, steamed cabbage, plaintains, cooked green banana, boiled dumplings, yams or festivals). Another option available is ordering a small or large serving. I ordered the small serving with white steamed rice, steamed cabbage, plaintain and festival(see photo). Everything was fantastic (if you look closely, you can see before and after photos of my meal). The small serving filled me up that I didn't have room for dessert.I couldn't get enough of the plaintains and festivals. Note to self, order extra servings of festivals and plaintains during my next visit.
The dessert options consist of Ice Cream, Slice of either Pound Cake, Red Velvet Cake, Cheese Cake, Jamaican Fruit Cake or Chocolate Cake. Many different beverages to quench your thirst- bottle water, Carrot Juice, Ginger Pineapple, Jamaican D&G Soda (all flavors), Baba Roots just to name a few. Ocho Rios also served the very popular Jamaican Patties (beef, chicken, cabbage, spinach or shrimp).
Ocho Rios Grill is opened 7 days a week, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Business Hours are Monday - Saturday, 8:30AM- 10PM, and Sunday, 8AM- 7PM.
