Two new exhibitions are currently on view at the Santa Monica Art Studios. Special guest artist Brooke Harker is one of the featured artists participating in the group show.
Harker recently exhibited her work in a group show entitled "Canvas Streets" at Destroy Rebuild Repeat Gallery in Santa Monica. She is looking forward to showing at the Santa Monica Art Studios. It is a gallery near and dear to her heart.
“I feel honored to show paintings alongside artists whose work I have admired and observed over the years. I find the Santa Monica Studios quite inspiring. The galleries and studios there have been the destination for many artist dates with myself over the years,” says Harker. “I remember seeing the work of Yossi Gorvin the first time I went there years ago and being in awe by some of his larger paintings. At that time, I had not attempted to work in such a large scale, and I found inspiration in being exposed to his work.”
Founders Sherry Frumken Yossi Govrin oversee the day-to-day activities of the Santa Monica Art Studios. Frumken has been a longtime gallery owner (Sherry Frumken Gallery at Bergamot Station) and Govrin is an established artist, who also has a studio at the arts complex. Together they represent both ends of the art spectrum.
The Santa Monica Art Studios was created to support local artists. Frumken has always been fond of working with artists. She explains, “I’m not an artist, though I love art and am grateful that I am around their creative energy. I’ve always taken the most pleasure in being able to convey to the public what is behind an artist’s work.”
Also part of Saturday’s opening will be Lyle Carbajal, Rachel Furman, Dara Isaacs, Cristina Parovel, Isaura Sanchez, Robert Stark, Patrick and Adam Wilkinson.
