Writer's Block

by LifeCherries (writer), South Africa, April 22, 2013

Ever had problems trying to think of what to write?

I was complaining to a fellow blogger the other day about the fact that I just cannot seem to sit and write a post at the moment.

I can think of titles for posts. I start writing the first sentence...... and then nothing. I have no more words. I have had this problem for the last 2 weeks. One of the reasons for my Bananas post last week - and that went down very well just by the way.......

So we then started debating whether we were entitled to use the term "Writer" and in turn if we were entitled to use the term "Writer's Block".

To be quite honest, I actually don't know what entitles one to use the term "Writer". At what point are you considered a writer? Is this after you have been published? Is it after you have sold any of your works or made money from writing? Or does it apply to wider audience such as bloggers?

We then started playing around and making up alternative words to use in place of writer's block. Eventually we had a short list of 3 or 4 words and we eventually agreed to use the term "Blogstipation".

So today I thought I would brag about the fact that I have coined a new term. And then I looked the word up in Google - and guess what - the phase has already been coined:

Taken from Urban Dictionary:

  • n. Inability to blog regularly
  • n. Inability to think of anything to blog about

"She tells it like it is,sometimes a bit racy which i like." Your best friend's words. Take away the fullstop after the second like.Do just that...tell it like it is. Writer's Block is a 'self imposed' pair of mental 'doubt' handcuffs...bandied about like having to mentally "bleed". You don't have to jump off Niagra Falls to know what fear feels like. Your country is so diverse.Watched a program whereupon two heavily armed re-inforced 4 wheel drives took an obviously "well to do" lady and her two kids to the beach for a few hours? Driving? swerving! all over the road to avoid an "imaginary?" car jacking whilst speeding through "lower" class suburbs. Watching overhead at bridges for "rock throwers." Is it really that gung- ho in some parts? The guards pushed an innocent guy off his bike because he had the audacity to stop at a red light! It's all there...but please don't bag Dorothy Virtue or you'll start a blogamoroseatoriam. She's obviously a wonderful inspiration but i wonder if SHE suffers from 'Angel block' sometimes? You'll get there...RELAX! Nice post. You ARE a writer...take the mental cuffs off. Tell the local police that you just went potty and hit your husband over the head with a pot because you had 'husband block.' Describe the 'poor service' in the lockup. Papillon did! You'll get there...best wishes...cheers.

Either way you say it, someone will say... What entitles you to call yourself a blogger? It is an unending cycle.

Yes it is indeed. I blog therefore I am a blogger - that's my view and I'm sticking to it. I don't claim to be good at it or the best but nevertheless, I am a blogger.
