An Open Letter to President Obama

Something wicked this way comes

It is time we all woke up to the simple fact that the clerical fascists who govern Iran are a danger to everything we hold dear.

Dear Mister President,

You will recall that you opened your first term of office with an overture, as you put it, to the ‘Islamic Republic’ of Iran. Let’s be friends, you said, offering the ‘Islamic Republic’ your hand. That same hand, as I’m sure you know, was bitten by the 'Islamic Republic' dog. With you it is not a case of once bitten twice shy; for the hand is being extended once again. You have offered direct talks with the growling mongrels in Teheran.

Let’s have a look a little more closely at the ‘Islamic Republic’. Yes, Mister President, why don’t you look a little more closely? Let me help you, because you really have to know what you are dealing with before your hand is bitten off altogether

Iran is not so much an ‘Islamic Republic’ as an idea, and that idea is hatred of America and all that America represents. You know the sort of thing – human rights, democracy, decency, integrity and free expression, all the spawn of the ‘Great Satan.’

Mister President, do you know, do your fellow Americans know, that every February Teheran is the setting for two international conferences? One is called “A World without America” and the other is called “A World without Israel.”

Yes, it’s a jolly occasion, attracting a bevy of ‘thinkers’ from across the planet, including, as I understand from a recent report in the political journal Prospect, from America itself. Given that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Iran’s fraudulent president, has a record of Holocaust denial it should be no surprise that some of these same ‘thinkers’ are notorious anti-Semites.

The two conferences are closely linked, part of Iran’s evolving strategy. The focus is on “the sacred cause”, a two-stage plan for the destruction of the “Great Satan.” The first stage is the elimination of Israel, which Ahmadinejad has promised to “wipe off the map.” He has terrorist proxies working towards that end – Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Once Israel goes America will follow. How, you may wonder? Just keep your eye on the Iran’s nuclear programme. Consider the possibility that atomic attacks would come not with missiles but with suitcases. You have considered this possibility; surely you have?

The ‘Islamic Republic’ is a nation motivated not by religion but by hatred. Actually it isn’t so much a nation state as an ideology, one that allows for no compromise. In some ways it is a more direct threat to America and American interests across the globe than Tojo’s Japan or Hitler’s Germany ever were. The danger is greater, you see, because it is more invidious.

So far as the ‘Islamic Republic’ is concerned it is headed by the only “divinely guided” government on earth, a government with a mission. All who oppose the ‘path of the Imam’ are dushman – the enemy. There is no compromise with enemies, internal or external.

More than 100,000 dissidents have been executed or died in prison since Khomeini’s Islamic paradise was established in 1979. A further five million have fled into exile. But that is no guarantee of safety, for at least 120 have been assassinated since 1989, murders in America, in England, in Germany, in France and in Switzerland.

A greater assassination is planned. “We want to destroy America, not negotiate with it”, said Ayatollah Mohammad Yazidi, a wholly delightful man who has publicly endorsed Iran’s military nuclear programme. He is also in favour of suicide bombers and the killing of anyone who has the temerity to insult Islam. For him Zionists are the “fundamental source of evil on earth.” Amongst other things he has said that the enemies of Islam will always fight while chanting peace-seeking slogans, something you would do well to take heed of, Mister President.

Former President George W. Bush famously described Iran as part of an axis of evil. The regime has been rather busy in recent years building its own axis. All are welcome, Islamic or not, provided they share Teheran’s hatred of the Great Satan. North Korea is there, of course, as are Venezuela, Bolivia, Nicaragua and Ecuador, governed by subversive leftist regimes. With their support Ahmadinejad was elected as head of the so-called non-aligned movement last year.

Do you understand, Mister President, are you capable of understanding what a dangerous place the world has become, what a dangerous country Iran is? I write ‘country’ but that really does not apply in any normal sense. Those who govern that land have taken it deep into barbarism. If they are allowed they will take the world into barbarism, urged forward by their messianic mission.

Here I am minded of something Winston Churchill once said when my country was faced with a barbaric foe. I adapt them, Mister President, for your benefit. The simple truth is we have to stand up to the ‘Islamic Republic.’ If we fail, then the whole world, including the United States, including all that we have known and cared for, will sink into the abyss of a new Dark Age made more sinister, and perhaps more protracted, by the lights of perverted faith.

It will take something diar, and tragic for this American President to awaken. He wants all people, everywhere, to grab hands and love each other. Unfortunately, for him and us, the American people, his diplomatic policies are being laughed at by Iran and everywhere else all over the Middle East.

Can understand your concern and agree with everything YOU have said. BUT, has anybody got a definitive ANSWER as to what should be done right here and NOW to cut through the bulldust, IMPOTENCE shrouding all these problems. Supposing ALL of you Broowaha bloggers TOMORROW were put in CHARGE. Just imagine your President has thrown his hands up in the air and declared that "whatever I do I can't win...you Broowaha bloggers YOU- are in charge! Tell ME as a damn good crossection of what democracy is about...you tell ME what to do?" Couple of questions. Would or could any other candidate have been a better President? Better at untangling the entrenched terrorist web without starting another war? Is anyone monitoring fizzers coming from Korean direction? Your HONEST thoughts please!

Uttam hi, i'm not trying to perceive anything my good friend.I'm agreeing with everybody in the well written article. Not everybody agrees for instance that we should be reaching out and holding hands...not my words. And i can see his point. What then should be done? Sanctions? As fast as the free world gets rid of one despot another pops up. When you get a multitude of different factions for whatever political reason or personal gain fighting in one country among themselves what's the answer? Whom for example do YOU think should be leading America out of the wilderness if you had your choice? Unrest over a flag now. The never ending story of opinions and counter opinions. Validity in each.Your last sentence in my opinion is the crux of the debate "can we be together?" More importantly WHEN will we ever be? Nice talking to you Uttam. Respect your opinion/s. I'm for joining hands but as already alluded to...free world's getting mostly provocative middle fingers. Or, are others more savy in the political arena peceiving wrongly? I guess it's the old "how much tension can a proffered politically frayed string take before it snaps?" God bless. That's it for me. What would Mitt do? Better or worse?...cheers.

Hi Riginal,

Two words: Ronald Reagan. When Reagan took over from the weakness of Jimmy Carter, the folks who were held captive in Iran were almost immediately released. The Iranians knew that a strong leader like Reagan wouldn't hesitate using all means necessary to free them. With Russia, he held Gorbachav to his word, negotiated using the strength of the U.S. military in his back pocket, and not only was the famous wall torn down but the cold war was stopped. Reagan believed in peace through strength, trusting but verifying, and always walking with a big stick. Obama is a wimp, and yes, I do believe Romney would've made a far better President in regards to foreign policy. People like the Iranian leaders don't repect sanctions or foreign policy, and like Iraq, they only change when forced to change. I don't ever favor war, but a nuclear Iran would be devastating to the world.

Randy: Ronald Reagan? Really? How did he do with the Lebanon crisis back in the 80’s? Ask the Marines in Beirut. We have a military as large as the inflated militarism of the 1980’s and what has that got us? Violence begets violence.

Sanctions crippled Saddam in Iraq as we well know. No WMD!! Yet we knee-jerked and invaded and occupied. Is this what should we do in Iran? Is this befitting a great people? A Christian people? Would Jesus invade, bomb and subjugate? Do we fear Iran invading and occupying us?

We have economic issues at home and need to draw back our military not inflate it. The Cold War is over, but the massive defense spending continues… maintaining such a military is fiscally reckless.

Jingoism plays well when it’s not your blood. Loose talk like that of GW Bush and recently Romney does no one any good. Think about it. Bush claims the Axis of Evil is Iraq, Iran and N. Korea then he invades the weakest of the three. What do the other two do? They run as fast as they can into the nuclear club. Nukes keep large, aggressive armies from invading your soil. How many nuclear powers have been subjugated by another nation? Zero.

Loose talk by powerful politicians and jingoism makes the world less safe. Let the Iranians rise against their tyrannical leaders, they did it in 1979. They can do it again.

I’d rather spend our tax money on social security, Medicare and universal healthcare than spend it policing the world.

John, it's sad to see you cut down a great President like Ronald Reagan. I, for one, slept very well at night knowing he was sitting in the Oval Office. I had several friends who served under him in the military and they've all said that our adversaries respected his power and authority. He was one who said what he meant in regards to threats against our nation. There are powers out there who want to harm our nation (9-11). War is never wanted, but freedom is never free, it always comes with a price. We are the best nation on earth and there are dictators everywhere who'd love nothing more than to see us fall. No President is perfect, but I'd take one like Reagan over someone like Obama anytime.
