The Law of Attraction

by Dani Further (writer), Chicago, April 30, 2007

The modern world is filled with people who constantly suffer from feelings such as fear, anxiety, stress, anger, and depression. Obviously these feelings are inevitable; this is life! However, some people become trapped in these feelings, and pulled into repetitive and harmful thought patterns.

Getting trapped in these cycles of negative feelings do far more harm then most people believe. Negative feelings do not only cause self-loathing, fatigue, pessimissm and numbness, it actually draws more negativity into one's life.

This is due to what is called "The Law of Attraction". The law is quite simple, and very true. The law states that what a person thinks about manifests physically into their life. A person's thoughts draw certain events and people into their life.

The Law of Attraction has to do with the energy frequencies of thought. A thought in a person's mind causes a vibration that travels out into the universe. The universe responds to these vibrations. Higher thought frequencies (positive thinking) cause the universe to respond in positive ways. Lower thought frequencies (negative thinking) causes the universe to respond in undesirable manners.

For example, let's say that you've started working a new job recently, and the salary isn't as high as you desired it to be. Suddenly, you begin to worry and obsess over not being able to pay all of your bills on time. You keep telling yourself, "oh no I'm just not going to be able to cover everything with my one check. I'm going to go into debt! What am I going to do??" And unfortunately, you've projected that negative energy to the universe and it is returned to you; your bills come, and you don't have enough money to pay for them.

The Law of Attraction definetly influences your life based on your emotions. People who harbour depressed thoughts attract depressing events into their lifes such as the deaths of family and/or friends, substance abuse, relationship problems and social isolation.

People who are constantly irritable and angry attract situations into their lifes which cause them to be more irritated and angry, such as being stuck in traffic, loss of friends and family, issues with authority figures and severe health problems.

People who are very stressed and anxious draw situations into their life such as suffering great losses (spouses/partners, friends, family), receiving more difficult work at their job, financial issues and health problems.

Now, bad things that happen to people don't always happen because a person was consciously thinking about it. There are several reasons why things happen to us even if we're not drawing them to us with our conscious thoughts.

One reason is that difficult situations need to happen to people so they learn. The majority of our most important lessons are learned the hard way, undeniably, and through those challenging life lessons we grow and become wise.

Another reason certain negative events happen is that all people have a highly active sub-conscious. Our sub-conscious projects thought frequencies into the universe the same way our conscious mind does, except these frequencies are a bit beyond a normal person's control.

The last reason obstacles appear before us despite our thoughts being optimistic and generally happy is karma. When you do people wrong, it always comes back to you one way or another. Avoid building bad karma! Be nice to people, honest and do the right thing. Postive karma comes back to you as well.

The wonderful thing about The Law of Attraction is that is works with positive thinking too. As a matter of fact, positive thoughts draw more good things to a person than negative thoughts draw negativity to a person.

When you focus on the beauty in life, remain optimistic and maintain a focused state of mind, you project very strong and high thought frequencies into the universe. You are rewarded with great things happening to you!

Instead of worrying about whether or not you will be able to pay the bills, say "Of course I will be able to pay the bills!" If you know that you need another job to pay the bills, look for one, and as you do, reaffirm "I will get another job, and I will be able to pay my bills and have extra money to spend on myself or save".

Another fantastic way the law works is for manifesting material objects into your life. Do you want a new car? More money? A new house or apartment? Focus on what you want, and take the time to imagine yourself owning that new object. Close your eyes and pretend you are driving your dream car, imagine how happy you are and feel the adrenaline pumping through your veins. Put that vibration into the universe, and wait patiently to reap the benefits.

Go visit the house you want to buy, even if you can't afford it, just to get the feel of what it is like on the inside, this will drive you to work hard and keep your mind focused on the prize.

The most important thing about using The Law of Attraction to manifest material things into your life is to be grateful. Remind yourself of all the things you are grateful for that are already in your life, and thank the universe for provding them.

Also, do not give up! Do not stop your postive thinking or focus and fall into pessimism simply because you have been waiting a long time for something. We live in a society of instant gratification, and the universe has all eternity to bring things into people lifes.

One final piece of advice is to write down your goals! Write down a list of all the things you want in your life, even if you believe that you alone can not get them or they seem outrageous. Dream big! Review the list everyday, and give yourself positive affirmations, tell yourselve you will get these things. Remeber to be patient!

In addition to writing your goals down, make a list of the things in your life that you are grateful for, whatever those things or people may be. As your review your desires and goals, look at this list and thank the universe for giving them to you.

I urge everyone who reads this to try it at least once! Test for yourselve the infinite benefits of positive thinking, and help heal yourself from negativity. Anyone can do it!

If you would like more information, watch the film "The Secret" directed by Drew Hariot. The film goes into more details, but also offers amazing examples of the benefits of using the law of attraction to your advantage.

Peace and love for everyone

I haven't seen "The Secret," but I have heard passionate testimony about its wisdom. Having read your article, I'm troubled that "wishful thinking" is being talked about as a valid neuroscience, and as a constructive way to solve real problems in life. When faced with a decision, is the "Law of Attraction" really more effective than writing a pro/con list or asking a friend for advice?

The "Law of Attraction" is no law at all; it isn't even a hypothesis. It is a poorly strung together, localized and incoherent set of guesses about why what happens in fact happens. It has all the validity of phrenology and reading tea leaves. It is alchemy for the soul. The author wrote a well stated version of it, and I respect the effort, but the merit of the idea is simply vacant. I wish there were some truth to the notion, but there simply isn't.

I have already made made my feelings known about this insidious concept elsewhere. 'Image you have a red Ferrari and a palatial apartment by the sea.......'. I say to any readers of this :- "get real". Yes positive thinking is a good and useful tool and affirmations are fine in and of themselves, but life will still hand you brickbats and bouquets and you're never sure which.
