Over the years I have worked with every existence of people. The wealthy, the educated, the uneducated, the middle class, the working poor, the single parent, the homeless. In this, I have often asked myself what is the difference between those who are happy and have fulfillment within; and those who don't. I know this is no " simple " question and the answer surely could take a book or two to answer... but if I could narrow it down to one important reason and somehow simplify it... I would have to say it is how you CHOOSE to receive what life may bring you. Are you able to find the "positive" in the negative? Are you able to realize that maybe what you thought was a curse, was a "blessing " in disguise. In this struggle, which caused you pain, you may have grown and become a better person ... there was a lesson you needed to learn in this struggle. This simple thinking is what has always kept me sane ( well most of the time...LOL.) This being said..., I try to welcome my challenges. I do say try because I am only human and certainly not perfect. I find that with time, I usually can reflex and figure out the lesson within. When it is hard to hold on to faith in these times... have faith in yourself and know that it will all work out in the end. Whatever you are given, you will also be given the strength to handle it. We are all born with everything we need to be happy and fulfilled. It is within our own hearts. The question then is " Will you CHOOSE to find it and use it?"
I have always loved this poem and the message within. I hope you will enjoy it too and reflex on it's meaning.
Figure It Out For Yourself
George Washington Carver
Figure it out for yourself, my lad,
You've all that the greatest of men have had;
Two arms, two hands, two legs, two eyes,
And a brain to use if you would be wise,
With this equipment they all began--
So start from the top and say, I CAN.
Look them over, the wise and the great,
They take their food from a common plate,
And similar knives and forks they use,
With similar laces they tie their shoes;
The world considers them brave and smart,
But you've all they had when they made their start.
You can triumph and come to skill,
You can be great if you only will;
You're well equipped for what fight you choose,
You have arms and legs and a brain to use;
And the man who has risen great deeds to do
Began his life with no more than you.
You are the handicap you must face,
You are the one who must choose your place.
You must say where you want to go,
How much you will study the truth to know;
God has equipped you for life, but He
Lets you decide what you want to be.
Courage must come from the soul within
The man must furnish the will to win.
So figure it out for yourself my lad,
You were born with all that the great have had;
With your equipment they all began,
Get hold of yourself and say, 'I CAN.'
