Is There a Why?

"Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around."

IS THERE A WHY?

Why do we give so little
When we have an abundance
Living within each of us
To baptize another...

Perhaps your gift is a smile
Which unknowingly saved
A despairing soul
Afflicted, desperately holding on
To a sliver of aspiration...

Your unpretentious smile
Birthed a moment of grace
Bestowed a gift so pure
Costing you nothing
Saving unconsciously a soul...

I want to abide in this world
A world devoid of selfish
Unperceptive apathy
Eyes that are open
Perceiving life as giving...

Take me away from recklessness
Never to amble on that path
When I am gone
From this short moment
In time and space...

Let me have had the
Courage and fortitude
To live with integrity
Rather than the narrow
Confines of avaricious
Coveting of paraphernalia ...

A miniscule offering
Invaluable redemption
Hope shining through
The darkest void
Drinking from the cup
Of Gratitude and Love...

Thank you Amity...my idealistic heart will always pray for the best in life...this poem was written by being inspired by Leo Buscaglia...a beautiful teacher...RIP... but his words and heart live on in many I believe...
