Your Family Should Have a Show: The Color of Virtue

by Kire Sdyor (writer), New Shinar, April 07, 2012

My kids attend a charter school. This means school uniforms, and strict school behavior. My youngest may not be quite on board.

The Sdyor children attend a charter school. This means school uniforms, high academic standards, and strict school behavior including a color card change disciplinary system. Some students and parents start to burn under this lens but my wife Ann and I have decided this is the best place for our children's primary education. Our oldest son Brady (Age 19) went along with the program and got good grades, played sports and served in student government. Olympia (Age 13) is struggling to keep up with her school workload and continue the active social life that comes with being America's sweetheart. James (Age 9) loves school and wouldn't miss a day. Of course once he gets there he may not be towing the company line...

Ann: "Hello. Yes, this is Mrs. Sdyor. Oh, hello Mr. Last Name First. We haven't had to speak in a while."

Mr. LNF: "Wah wah wah."

Ann: "33 days. You keep records of that sort of thing, do you. How can I help you?"

Mr. LNF: "Wah wah woh wah wah."

Ann: "So clear would be an absense of color?"

Mr. LNF: "Wah woh wah."

Ann: "I see. Why was his card on clear?"

Mr. LNF: "Wah wah woh wah wah."

Ann: "I would think that would be an issue. What was this month's virtue that he was mocking?"

Mr. LNF: "Wah wah woh wah woh wah."

Ann: "Yes. I can understand the teachers annoyance. I also believe that's a wonderful virtue and needs to be practiced. Thank you for calling. 3,2,1 JAMES!!"

James: "What's up?"

Mom: I just got a call from the principal. He says you keep having outbursts in class while the teacher is discussing the virtue of self-control? That defeats the whole purpose of the lesson."

James: "It's an virtue every kid has been taught before. I decided the time would be better used teaching the class irony."
