Four Day Splendor Of Cheltenham Festival
One of the most celebrated events in the United Kingdom, Cheltenham Festival, is a remarkable meeting of the biggest jumps filled with magic and madness. On the face of it, the event is noted as a prestigious meeting that features best race horses and offers huge prize money.
Usually, the race includes a cast of best British and Irish trained horses competing against each other. This top class sport is a rare event and considered as passion and fun by masses of audience. Generally held for four days in the month of March, the gala is known to draw huge audiences who are in a quest to enjoy the time of their lives.
The gala is officially known as the National Hunt Meeting, while its origination dates back to the year 1860. Initially, the event was celebrated for three days, but eventually extended to fourth day that ends with a Gold Cup. It is popular with the Irish crowd since the festivity corresponds with the Saint Patrick's Day.
Large amount of money is gambled over the four days though it is not a constraint to the participants as they are determined to relive their passion. Often noted for its atmosphere, the event is marked for its enormous amount of noise generated by the crowd when the starter hoists tape for the opening race of the gala.
The famous roar during the opening of the first race indicates the zeal of the crowd who has been ardently waiting for arrival of the racing fixture. The following day is known as Ladies Day, generally celebrated for fun by giving away fashion awards.
