Go Ahead...I Dare You!

Sunshine, smiles and love!

When did we give up on ourselves? When did we start just "getting by"?

When was the last time you looked at yourself in the mirror? I’m not speaking about as you’re brushing your teeth, or putting on make-up ladies or even brushing your chest hair (obviously Borat is reading this). I mean really looked at yourself. Sat down in front of a mirror and really looked into your eyes. Looked at the reflection staring back at yourself while no television, radio, computer or anything else is distracting you. That’s what I thought.

So many of us are living unconsciously. We are going through life doing what we “have” to do and just getting by. Then we wonder why so many of us are not in touch with ourselves. We wonder why so many of us are not really sure what we want or what we should be doing with our lives. I don’t think we give ourselves enough attention. There, I said it. We talk about what we want or rather what we are lacking but I don’t think enough of us really sit with ourselves and check in with ourselves to find out what we really are thinking or wanting or needing. We are so distracted these days with the computer and the tv’s and the video games and everything else that takes away from us being with us; with our thoughts. How do we expect to journey through this life and be content and peaceful if we aren’t even sure what our spirit even wants or needs to feel that?

When you’re finished reading this (if you’re somewhere private of course), take a seat in front of a mirror and really look into your eyes. It’s sort of an overwhelming experience. You will notice that some sensation comes up within you that’s almost a bubbling over of an emotion. That’s your spirit, your soul looking back at you. That’s your truth, your essence that is actually being seen. That is the child in you that had no fear, that believed anything was possible (including Ricky Schroeder falling in love with me the moment he laid eyes on me), that didn’t care what others thought because we were just living in the light of life with such joy that it didn’t matter what came our way because we had an invisible shield, a treehouse and a secret knock that kept us from any danger! That is where we need to get back to. The knowingness that we will always be okay and even when something might come unexpectedly, we still have the tools necessary to deal with it and even flourish because of it!

Yes, life does throw twists and turns and challenges and curveballs and all of that at us, but that is what living is and that is all part of the journey. That doesn’t mean that we give up on our dreams or stop believing in ourselves or allowing others to define us or influence us to stop being who we are just because a challenge comes our way. You and I were meant for greatness and we have been put on this Earth to shine, to inspire, to live, to love and to serve others all in our OWN unique way. So when you find yourself going through the motions of everyday life and wondering why you feel so unfulfilled and hopeless and depressed, it’s because you’ve stopped living. The moment we allow anyone or anything to stop us from being the beautiful, confident, amazing spirits that we are, is the moment that we’ve given our own personal power away. There is a reason why it’s called “self-worth” and not “others-worth”. It’s time to take back your light, your power, your life! I don’t care how hard it is, how much work it is, or even if you don’t believe it’s possible. If you don’t take the first step back in reclaiming your life, then you have no right to go through this life complaining about how miserable your life is or the world or anything for that matter. If you want to see things in this world change, you need to bring that change. You want to see beauty, you need to bring beauty! You want to feel joy, you need to bring joy!

With all that is happening on this planet, there is no time for apathy or complaining. You want more kindness and love throughout the planet? Then we have to stop judging those in our circles, and speaking unkind words about others, and doing things to dishonor our own selves. You can do better. I can do better. We ALL can do better. I promise you that if you take the first step in quieting down all the noise around you and really start a dialogue with yourself, starting with first asking yourself what you want from life, you will open up the door to a life that wants to throw blessings your way because you are telling life that you are ready to start living! Before you know it, you will be on the path of a life that your inner child has been waiting for you to fulfill! Go ahead! Your life is waiting.

Brilliant. Nice piece - and great advice. I try to stay away from the mirror except under really forgiving lighting conditions... it helps to keep the crying at bay.
