No cell at the wheel in 2008

by Ariel (editor), Venice, CA, September 17, 2006

Our Governator approved a measure on Friday banning the use of cell phone while driving in California. The measure will take effect on July 1st, 2008.

"The simple fact is that it is really dangerous to talk on a cell phone and drive at the same time," Schwarzenegger said. "It's very important for people to know ... stop using the cell phone right now, because you are putting people at risk."

The fine will be $20 bucks if you're caught for the 1st time asking your wife what's for the dinner while driving back home from work, and $50 the second time when you will be ordering from Pizza Hut when she will have answered that she is not your personal cook.

Similar bans have already been approved in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

In France too, it's been a long time since it's forbidden. But what's really dangerous is to smoke, to drink and composing personal messages at the same time as driving. But thanks to the alcohol and tobacco lobby you can still drink and smoke and drive. However, don't compose a PM, it's way too dangerous for you Schwarzie said.

Well, smoking is still allowed while driving that's true, even though your car is one of the few places where you can smoke in California. Drinking is allowed till .08 blood concentration which is pretty low. And you're obviously not allowed to drink while driving nor even carry any alcohol in your car anywhere else than the trunk.
