James Delaney, born on August 1, 1924 fought under the name of Jimmy Doyle. He made his professional debut in May 6, 1941 at age 17 at the Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles. He also fought many times at the Hollywood Legion Stadium where local boxers of the day used to fight. The stadium was closed in 1959. Doyle used to train at Main Street Gym also in Los Angeles and also gone like the Legion.

Like myself Jimmy Doyle was of french ancestry. He was a classy fighter and was attracted by fight fans of his old-fashioned stand up stance which made him look like a throwback of the bare-knuckle... Read More

Last night I had the pleasure of being at the San Jose Sharks hockey game at HP Pavilion. If you’re not a hockey fan, you’re probably not aware of this team’s amazing 11-game winning streak. It’s the longest streak in the NHL this season and the most impressive run of consecutive victories since the New Jersey Devils won 11 in a row two years ago. The all-time record is 17 straight, accomplished by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1993.

To say that San Jose is excited about their Sharks right now is a huge understatement. Last night the arena (aka “The Shark... Read More

The Yankees spring camp was turned into fantasy camp Thursday as comedian Billy Crystal, who signed a one-day contract with the New York Yankees on Wednesday, played his first and only game as the Yanks took on the Pittsburg Pirates at Legends Field.

Crystal, who celebrates his 60th birthday on Friday, wore number 60 and led off for the Yanks as the designated hitter. “I’m the D.H. — designated Hebrew,” Crystal said. “It doesn’t matter. I’m so jazzed. It’s the greatest thrill ever.”

Crystal, who was his high schools baseball... Read More

Former New England Patriots video assistant Matt Walsh, the main figure in the "Spygate" controversy, may be ready to talk to officials from the NFL.

The Boston Globe reported Monday that Walsh, who has asked for immunity from the league, and the NFL are nearing an agreement that would allow him to come forward and tell what he knows. And evidently, he must know something that could prove damaging to the Patriots. Otherwise, why would he be asking for immunity?

Five weeks ago, Walsh told the Globe that he possessed possible damaging information about the Patriots' videotaping.... Read More

With the recent retirement of Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre, Aaron Rodgers says he's ready to takeover as the Packers signalcaller.

There's just one catch.

"I'm not Brett Favre," he said Saturday. "And if they're wanting me to be the next Brett Favre, I'm not going to be him. I'm Aaron Rodgers. That's who I am."

Rodgers, who was the Packer's first round draft pick out of California back in 2005, has only thrown a career total of 59 passes, has never started an NFL game and played in only two games last season including a solid effort, replacing an injured... Read More

Next weekend the world will be introduced to a magnificent, ancient, deeply spiritual martial art in the Hollywood film, “Never Back Down.” This movie depicts the grace and beauty of a young man destined to prove his worth and show his determination by studying the magnificent history of MMA. Wait, this movie’s about MMA? Since when did MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) have such a deep philosophical background? Answer; It doesn’t.

MMA is a touchy subject here in Portland, where the fighting “art” has taken deep roots and has garnered the city a modicum... Read More

If Brett Favre were to retire two years ago, as originally expected, most would've said "It's about time". If Favre were to retire after a disappointing 2006 season, most wouldn't be surprised.

However, after a magical 2007 season that saw Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers reach the NFC Championship game for the first time since 2001, most Packers fans were waiting for him to comeback in 2008 and win a Super Bowl and ride off into the sunset.

But today, the "Green Bay Gunslinger" called it a career after 17-years in the NFL.

"I know I can still play, but it's like... Read More
