They have a good reason if they seem somewhat nervous -- they are at the start of a 1300 meter "race" down the side of a mountain-cliff.

The competition is the World BASE Race, and the title that these athletes compete for is 'The World's Fastest Flying Human Being'.

Competitors race each other to the bottom of the cliff, across the "finish line" using only a wingsuit, gravity and once across the finish line deploy their parachutes to land safely. A mistake in this race has consequences that are far more severe than a sprained ankle.

Guor Marial, a marathon runner, will take part in the Olympic Games as an "independent" athlete. This is an Olympic Games' first. Marial will compete under the Olympic flag, reports the the Telegraph.

Olympic Athletes from the USA and a number of other countries were treated to a 4 hour trip from London's Heathrow airport to the Olympic Village in Stratford where they will be staying.

"We’ve been lost on the road for 4hrs. Not a good first impression London" tweeted American 400-meter hurdler Kerron Clement. The Adidas "shakle sneaker" idea didn't make much sense athletically and the concept reminded many of the USA's grim past of slavery. The result was a backlash against the company. Adidas company has responded to the outrage by cancelling its plans to manufacture and sell the JS Roundhouse Mids. The sneakers were designed to include a bright, plastic and orange chain and ankle cuffs that looked more like "slave shackles."

The running shoes named JS Roundhouse Mids are scheduled for release in August. The Adidas JS Roundhouse Mids come with a bright, plastic, orange chain and ankle cuffs.
