Just when you thought the true spiritual meaning of Christmas had pandered to materialism, flashing lights, and political bickering over religious beliefs, an unexpected surprise and gift from an anonymous source splashes some holiday spirit along your way.

Isn’t it sad that the only place anyone ever dares talk about religious viewpoints, or demonstrates true acts of giving these days is where they’re expected (church, charitable organization)? And usually then, they only appear at certain scheduled times of the year or days of the week. So, when someone surprises you with an unanticipated... Read More

We are old adversaries, 3 a.m. and I, from my youth we've struggled together. Many are the battles, endured, survived. Everything is clear, nowhere to hide from my thoughts, from my past, from my heart. Lying awake at 3, reality is raw, my thoughts accusing, blaming, vindictive. Who can stand alone with 3 a.m.? Hauntings begin, things you thought were dead, coming to life. I now called out, my battle cry at this loathsome time.

"3, you sought my life, mercilessly slaying my peace, wracking my soul with dread at having to face you, again, again, and again, always there. Come let's wrestle... Read More

I used to be a snob. A big one. You know, one of those people who couldn't let another person be wrong because, of course, I was always right. I was particularly snobbish about grammar and all things linguistic because, you see, I was convinced of my own linguistic expertise. I was a logophile, a veritable connoisseur of linguae francae. My pedantic priggishness took root in high school wherein I was the only person to take four years of Latin in the history of my school. I reveled in my scholastic notoriety. Of course, I was shoved into a corner in the back of my classroom during Latin... Read More

1) Hold your head high, you are beautiful, every day, all the time. When a man asks you to change your appearance to be acceptable to him, walk away and be yourself. Develop your character inside. Beauty is deeper than an outward appearance.

2) Respect yourself. In all you do and say, be a woman of class and honor. You will not get respect until you respect yourself.

3) Follow your dreams, never let a relationship, whether it be friendship, or love, rob you of what you dream.

4) Be independent, make sure of your own finances, health, and career. Always have... Read More

“The foolish ask many questions the wise cannot answer” - Oscar Wilde

Questions are a sign of intelligence and creativity. They can, however, lead to an endless, tortuous circle of reasoning. Chasing answers can drive me to insanity. Why did that tragedy happen to me? Is God male or female? Will I know people after I die? These inquiries will only exhaust my mental and emotional energy, leaving me with no strength to push through the day at hand. Questioning my beliefs, my existence, my experience, is necessary, I must however, lay down my pursuits and find a place of peace to exist... Read More

This is a story about rebirth, starting over, a new beginning, and that time old question. “What would you give to start over”?

Approaching mid-life, he begins to take stock of himself. He realizes that he’s not a young man any longer. Still life has been good to him; he’s living the “American Dream”. I've never been a great one for climbing trees! I can look back over my life from the 6th decade downwards, and can't remember much in the way of tree-climbing, especially recently! The higher the climb, the harder the thud when your foot slips or your hand fails to fully grasp a branch. I never did trust myself that much.

On the other hand, for a confident and successful climb, I also would have had to have confidence in the tree! To trust that a branch was strong enough to hold my weight was not something I was confident about at any given time. And now I would not even give it... Read More
